st mary's church amport

St Mary’s Church is in the benefice of Amport, Grateley, Monxton and Quarley, together with Over Wallop and Nether Wallop to make the Portway & Danebury Team. This is part of the Deanery of Andover and the Diocese of Winchester.

There are no remains of the original church, which was probably built of timber and thatch. The present church was built of knapped flint in the Decorated style during the years 1320 to 1330. It was built in the cruciform layout that it still retains although there have been some minor changes in the last 150 years.

St Mary’s Church in Amport is a family centred place of worship. We welcome not only our own villagers but also those from the other churches in the Benefice with whom we share our Team Ministry. We hold a Eucharist service (Holy Communion) on the second Sunday of the month at 11am and an Evensong on the fourth Sunday at 6pm.

COVID has presented a challenge for all Churches but our aim over the next few months, and as the situation allows, is to expand the range of Services so that we can all enjoy and share the wonderful surroundings of our Church and the faith of those who worship in it. We look forward to welcoming you.
